Happy 2020!!!!

Hello!!! I'm in Toledo on Cebu Island.  Ah, i had to say goodbye to Sister Zoleta and Busay Ward - its so wonderful there i feel like it helped us to grow so much and ah love the people, pero Toledo is also so wonderful and so many miracles!!! We always run house to house Sunday morning (especially when our phone was broken) to remind and invite everyone to come to church and we had MIRACLES HAPPEN   18 people were there!!! 8 were little kids under the age of 8 and we looooove them and the sacrament is so powerful and totally what brings people back time and time again,  even before they have been baptized because who wouldn't want to be able to become new and grow and change and learn through the atonement?!

That's something I looked at this week, remembering Lot's wife. Okay maybe we are having such a good time and enjoying our life as fishermen or in Sodom and Gomorrah or in Jerusalem, but because Christ loves us so much he asks us to do things for our growth.  Having planned blessings in store ahead of us if we just choose to follow him and become fishers of men or leave our old lives behind and don't look back!!!

I love our recent convert Queent who has been trying to change her whole life as she becomes a disciple and leaves old wardrobes or drinks behind. Also the intez family!!! This is us going to church with their 6 tiny children ah we love them and also okay no time but i love you Have such a good year and day!!!!

Wait, there was this moment we were called over and started to talk to someone and they asked for a way to know parts of the bible were true or a second witness okay bASAHON NI MORMON! then, imagine the most magical sunset glowing orange and pink as we testified of the truthfulness of the Book of Mormon. i love being a missionary.  okay bye!

Walking to church with the Intez Family  They are the Best!!!!!

Queent - I LOVE her so much!

Christmas #2 in Toledo

Hello!!! I am here in Toledo again at Christmas time, it has been such a big learning experience and being able to see the things that have changed in a year in myself and also the things I still want to keep working on changing. I love the pure love people have for others here and the acceptance I have felt and love as I met the people being taught here.

I felt so much joy as we helped the Intez family of 8 come to church for the first time as a whole family on Sunday!!! Brother usually has work but committed to do his best and to see all of their tiny little kids lined in the pew reminded me of what this gospel really is about; the uniting of families for time and all eternity!!! We do not yet have a phone in our area so it has been a little trickier keeping up with appointments or reminding people when we are going over, and contacting the sisters in Balamban, but they seem to be doing good and so selflessly serve wherever they are.

Sister Nelson has been so patient in trying to remember the people and areas here and just is so patient in teaching and really listening to and responding to the concerns of others. I have much to learn from her and so many people to serve and love! We talked about serving out of lust/ fear/ or out of love and it helped me to realize how it starts with the right intention and desires. Just like how Lehi chose to obey the commandment to leave Jesuraselm not out of fear of what man could do, but because he loved God and desired to obey all His commandments. Also how Nephi didnt want to go back to his father without obeying the commandment to get the plate, not because he was worried about "how the zone leaders would respond when they looked at the stats" (putting this into a missionary perspective) but did it out of love for obeying. Love in obeying means doing it joyfully and I realized I may have been lacking in doing missionary work, sharing the gospel, and even tcing for the right reasons. It really is because these are my dear brother and sisters and I love them!!! I want them to be happy and feel peace and joy and understand why I feel that in my life because it is all because of this perfect gospel!!!

For some reason I have been feeling far from the promptings of the Spirit, or in other words I have been expecting to receive thoughts or impressions or words but haven't been recognizing them. This was such a good opportunity to take a look at my personal prayers and if i really do ask in faith, knowing that God will give and bless and help these people through me if I am sincere, but also that He won't always answer or prompt me in the ways I expect. I love the example of Nephi in desiring to know if things were true so he asked for himself through prayer and the Holy Ghost bore witness. I am so grateful for the holy ghost and just am continually working on seeing how it is trying to speak to me. I LOVE SERVING AS A MISSIONARY it feels like pasko everyday. And I am so grateful for the example of all the sisters here if how they love unselfishly.

Sister Miller and I after getting hit with endless smoke from the fire and chopping onions for an eternity! Haha they say a mission requires blood sweat and tears and I think we have the tears part checked off now!

Leaving Busay

I am sooo grateful for this blessed time I have had here in Busay.  I loooove these people so much. As we walked the streets the other night and saw the temple over the hills I just felt so at peace and know all I have learned and felt really is for my growth and I hope to take it with me for the rest of my life. It can be easy to question if I have done all I could have here, or if this Busay ward is stronger than when we got here, but I know that Busay ward, and this area has helped to strengthen my testimony of this sacred work and that it is TRUE! Ah it will be so hard to say goodbye to Sister Zoleta I have absolutely loooved being her companion and feel as though she has helped to train me again on how to teach and be a better missionary and more Christlike person. She is such an example and I have no doubt that her love for the people we are teaching here will continue to help and guide her in her work.

I am so grateful for the opportunity to testify of our Savior and feel His love for others, especially this Christmas. The truthfulness of this work and also the Christmas season helps all grow in desire to come unto Christ and we saw that on Sunday! We were punted on Saturday which gave us time to return to a couple who sells bananas on the street. She wasn't very busy so we talked and as we discussed the blessings of the gospel for the family she cried and said she wants her daughter to be on the right path and be happy, and because our plans had fallen through we got to go to the daughter who was home right then and was so happy to discuss the gospel and then we returned on Sunday and she and her lola kuyoged with us, no doubts they just wanted to feel the spirit and they did!!! The sacrament was powerful and so good.

Also, Brother Glen!!! This Brother he is soo bryte and intellectual but he informed us that he feels there isnt a need to question and at this point in his life he just wants to be as a current and follow where this path and the Book of Mormon is taking him. We hadn't had a chance to invite their family to church and we were late as we kuyoged that daughter and lola but then we heard a little voice call out "sister!!!" and it was the son of brother glen and THEIR WHOLE FAMILY WAS AT CHURCH they had sacrificed and found out what time and went to church and he said he felt at peace and it was such a good way to remember the Savior partaking of the sacrament!!!! also the niece of the daughter that came with us is only 5 but as she looked the sacrament table she asked "jesukristo ba na?" tinuod gud siya, nga the sacrament really is a way for us to lay our sins on the altar and it represents the body and blood of our Savior. OKAY sorry this is probably so confusing but I just cried in our lesson with Brother Glen because I felt so at peace, this is the Lord's work and He IS preparing people every day for us!!!

I studied about being a peculiar people today and love how it is described in the scriptures as a special and treasured people. Even if members face hardships or rejection or persecution, we get to be the Lord's chosen people and are so special to Him in our efforts. I LOVE BEING A MISSIONARY!!! I am excited to keep loving and serving and becoming better and yay almost Christmas!

Mosiah 16:8 Came to my mind

Okay you know how we always say the gospel is so real or Christ really was resurrected or we need to read our scriptures and say our prayers? So almost 1 year ago to the day i was in the mtc trying to memorize Mosiah 16:8 in bisaya and it was soo hard i kept returning to the same words over and over and couldn't remember them and it definitely never got perfect but i just loved the words ang kahapdos sa kamatayon gutuhop diha kang kristo (the sting of death is swallowed up in Christ)

Fast forward here we are in Busay a year later when sister Zoleta and i got a call that a sibling of a member had passed away and the ward had offered to do a funeral service. We agreed to join and thought we would just be attending but as it started they asked me to get up and speak. I had never met the wife or family of the man who had passed away and i disnt even have a bisaya book of mormom because we had already given it away so as i stood and the words of Mosiah 16 filled my mouth i had the most unexplainable feeling of yow REAL this is!!!

The gospel is real and the resurrection is real and its somehing ive said and believed but just to feel it in that moment across the world and facing a crying family while icried with them i felt it. We always say the sunday school answers that we need to try and read and have faith but in moments where it comes to it, we have to ask ourselves if we really truly believe and know and ah I KNOW IT! It's not just something we say to feel good, its the truth! Its what gives hope when we think our world has fallen apart or when we think we cant get punted by one more house.

The new nativity video available on www.churchofjesuschrist.org
I invite you to go watch it.       It shows the wise men kneeling at the feet of our Savior at such a young age and i know they kneeled and worshipped because he is our savior and redeemer.

Brother isagani continues in his desire to change through the atonement and despite peer pressure is saying no to things he shouldn't do or drink and says he feels strong. Also luz and victor i feel like they are some of my many parents here and they are such busy people he is building a house by himself  but we are still trying to invite and visit them lots. Im so sory im so bad at writing sa english also matag semana but I LOVE BEING A MISSIO ARY !okay have a Good week love you all!!!!

Tender Mercies Abound

We believe that Life's Path is always lined with Tender Mercies.  That the goodness of God can be found in any trial or experience.  Recognizing the 'Hand of God' in our individual lives is something we have tried to be very mindful of over the years.  His tender mercies have been apparent through all the major trials of our lives, but we have seen 'Tender Mercies Abound' in our family since Kayla has been away serving a full time mission.

This tender mercy has brought tears of gratitude and great happiness to our family.

Our fiend Matt let us know a few weeks ago that he was traveling to Cebu in early December and would be happy to take a package to the Mission Home there for Kayla.  Not only did he make it to Cebu and the Mission Home, he was able to attend church in the ward Sister Miller & Sister Zoletta  are serving in and got to give her the package in person.

We had not told Kay, Matt wold be traveling near her area, so I'm sure this was a HUGE surprise.
What a tender mercy that she is living right in Cebu at a time when a friend would be visiting Cebu.  What a tender mercy that he found her and got to see her serving in her ward.

Here's what Matt shared with us:
"She appears so happy.  Such a huge smile!  Wish you could see all the little girls (at least a dozen) go out of their way to greet her before church - they all light up with the biggest smile when they see Sister Miller"

Such a blessing to hear from someone who has seen her and been with her.  Our family has been so very blessed during Kayla's mission. We have tried to record all of the tender mercies we have experienced, but it has been hard to remember to record all of them. We recognize the Lord in the details of our lives and thank him for His endless mercy and unconditional love.

The Great Adventure

I love this talk too!!!!!!!!! its so true that we learn to love being comforable and just being in aspot of rest or relaxation and a lot of times change or new things can rock our boat and make us feel unsettled or uneasy (okay is that an understatement I know I definitiely have a hard time with change hahah but its gotten better its improving slowly gud but surely) but we alerady chose to follow Christ! every person on earth chose and trusted and felt such jou that they would get to come here and overcome hard things because of Jesus Christ. I LOOVE that it is a great adventure!!! that we dont have to just endure but we enjoy and love and are full of joy because of this opportunity! and also I am sooo excited we get to have adventures all together again as a family!!! okay some other things that happene3d this week I didnt get to share but nindot pa

tatay mabini: hes a wife of a member (they are no lnger together) so he lives far away in cebu east mission boundaries but every sunday he comes to church and we were able to teach him about the restoration with members present (SOOOOO powerful mom you are doing sucha  good thing doing splits with the misionaries!!!) and it just makes sense!!
fast sunday okay so church is at 12:30 so we start our fast on saturday after lunch and then eat after church but we ended up teaching tatay mabinii and then ate around 4 and ate so much (we cook before and bring it with us) and THEN we got invited to a fhe at a members house and got fed SOOOOO much around 7 and then were almost late so ended up running up this big hill to get home and sister zoleta felt so sick and said she was going to throw up and then we said we would never do it again but the next night the same place ins istio rio we got fed by sister jhovy and then had to run up the hill and had already been fed a different dinner appointment and we are pretty sure our stomachs have grown like 6x in size but no one threw up so we are okay

thanksgiving!!! i almost forgot we had exchanges so i was in lahug with sister siocon and we enjoyed and had a good time and got punteed (redirected) a lot gud but she goes home with sister bradshaw so so soon! but we bought jollibee and ate chicken and rice and it was still a good time haha
i was able to testify to brother alfie (that one with the hard trials) that things are not punishments from god but just part of our life and how i was confused with my concussion but it is sucha  blessing and has helped me to learn and grow and is all part of gods plan
I got to hold a puppy and a little girl braided my hair while we taught nanay judith i felt like i was in heaven
brother glen: he is soo good hes the one with the lung problems the same as sister zoleta and brother roy is a ysa and his neighbor and he came with us they have been friends forever like brother glen is like his father and he has never welcomed the missionaries until now and brother roy started to cry because he felt the joy of the gospel toucnhing the life of someone he loved so much!!! we are hoping to go bsack on firday and hopefully his wife is there\

THANKFUL

hi!!!! okay it sounds like you had a good thanksgiving and were all happy and healthy and SNOW oh my goodness stay safe out there and wear lots of coats. The typhoon was just like dark clouds and then loooots of rain yesterday like the streets flooded and we were so cold but it probably was still like 28 degrees so i dont know what that is in fareinheit but we definitley wore socks and pants to bed and didnt use a fan or anything haha.

I am SOOOOO THANKFUL FOR YOU ALL!!!! SERIOUSLY i hope you had such a good dinner and got to celebrate all together. Are we not sooo blessed?!?! Not just the spiritual things but the temporal things too we are soo blessed gud. I sometimes am amazed with how normal it has become that I live in a place where the people dont always have running water or a meal the next day and I am so grateful we get to light the world and i know that you guys are doing good to serve and love others and its still alive here! It feels so different like no snow and everything and its not the family all together but its still so happy becuase everyone here loves jesus christ and good things!!!

Brother Isagani! He is so good hes the part member that is 25 and we found him on the street and he has had a big desire ever since to learn and we played basketball with him on wednesday! but there were no girls so we just watched and i ran laps (THE BEST FEELING EVER I HAVENT RUN IN SO LONG) and we always teach by the temple because he doesnt want us to eeach at his house but jsut yesterday we taught him at the house of nanay dina who is not yet baptized but IS A MISSIONARY because she is so bold and i felt like i didnt know if we should teach the law of chastity when we had already started the lesson but we kept with it just focused on the many blessings of being clean and following this balaod and he felt the spirit and nanay dina was so powerful and he texted us that as he was walking home he already faced temptation with the law of chastity and how he was grateful we talked about it so he could feel the spirit.

Also luz and victor are THE BEST and so busy oh my goodness they work at the house of jhovy and are sooo busy luz is building a whole hosue by himself (mom imagine the stress like remodoling but building a house) and they are sooo busy they are like the maids right and are soooooo busy and we go there and try to help but we dont know how to make a house or do things and then sister jhovy just feeds us but other times there are such a spirit like yesterday we taught about l2 and how adam and eve it was a blessing diay and they just feast on the words of chirst and love it and want to go to church their prayer yesterday was about
how they feel so blessed by getting to learn what they need to go to gods kindgom and kept asking forgiveness for not being able to do more okay sorry we are just leaving diay i have no time but I LOVE YOU HAVE A GOOD WEEK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God's Plan

Okay so sorry, because of the on and off email sending (sorry about that) I don't remember what I have told you or not but here goes!!!
A couple of weeks ago as we were traveling to our recent convert and returning member (okay the path to their house is pretty mountainous and involves this cave because its the only way to get there) and we had gone through the cave how many times before as we visited there. On this specific day I thought nothing of it and we started walking through when I felt something on my shoulder and then heard Sister Zoleta scream from behind and a snake had fallen from the ceiling and then slithered down and in front of us haha he wasn't that big but we were so shocked and Sister Zoleta was so hesitant as we went home to go through again but we said a prayer and right as we opened our eyes someone was walking through the cave! Okay this area is so far away and there are only about 5 houses in that area so the chances of seeing someone right then, only God's plan could make that possible!!! I have thought a lot about that cave the last couple of days. Siempre we dont know why things happen or why people may not choose to accept the gospel and be baptized (ah our dear friends!!!!) and maybe we see immediate blessings and tender mercies right after our trials and prayers, but maybe we don't. Maybe we have to keep walking and trusting in God and His timing. Hebrews 11: 40 oh how i love it from Come Follow Me sooo much!!! That even the people with so much faith didn't always receive the promised blessings, but could only see them afar off. But we can know that "God having provided some better thing for us, that they without us should not be made perfect." I am so grateful for Brother Rene and his preparation for his baptism! he has given Sister Zoleta and I so much hope and every time we teach him new gospel principles he always says"really!?!? WOW" Just like the little children we have been teaching (part member pamilya) I testify how true it is that we must become like little children. We can be so amazed at the goodness of God and become submissive to HIS will! We can be full of love and joy and ask for help just as kids do. To see sweet Inday and Shina hike up and down the mountain with us in the pouring rain (they are one of the families that live through the cave haha) and arrived at church completely soaked and muddy in their sunday best just helps me count my blessings. Ah i am so grateful to be here!!! please know that others look to you as examples! they see the good you do and as you strive to become like Jesus Chrsit and even the small acts or rejoicing with those that rejoice or mourning with those that mourn or hiking with those that hike in Busay I know you are making huge differences and changing lives!!!

City and Jungle - I LOVE Busay

Here is my area. If you look close you can see the city beyond the jungle.  We actually live in the city, but this is our area.  I live about 10 minute walk from the Cebu Temple Complex, which is also where President and Sister Pajaro live in the Mission Home

Each day we walk/hike to our area

The island Sister Zoleta comes from is mostly flat, so she was not used to all these hills

One time I asked if she wanted to go for a hike on P-day and she said We Hike everyday.

I love Sister Zoleta and I love hiking here everyday to see all our friends who live in these moutains

This is a cave we pass through each day.  One time I had the thought to take a video as we walked through the cave, but then I didnt.  We were coming out and I felt something on my shoulder.  Sister Zoleta starting screaming and a snake slithered down me onto the ground. It was pretty funny

In our house in the city we have rats that eat into our stuff and in the jungle we have snakes.  Just missing our Tuko back in Old Escalante.

Hi!!!!!

okay how does time go soo fast??!! is it actually November?! My goodness Sister Zoleta is already fluent in Bisaya and continues to overcome her fear of dogs everyday. Also she loves people and makes them feel so loved; ah especially me and she continues to serve and cook incredible food ah one of the days this transfer we were talking to a woman on a jeepney who had been listening in on our conversation and then asked about what we were doing and then asked if it were possible for her to come to church and be baptized AHHH what we rode way past our stop so we could get her information and send to the missionaries in her area and then as we were running back to where we were supposed to get off, the senior couple missionaries that serve here in Cebu drove past and saw us running and holding hands, and told us they just wanted to get out of the car and come with us. This story actually sounds confusing but sometimes I just go through the motions not noticing just HOW INCREDIBLE this life is and that right now with Sister Zoelta, we get to hold hands as we speedwalk place to place sharing the gospel!!! Helping other people feel true joy!!! I know that God has a plan for each of us and He has the power to do things in His own time. Maybe we want blessings right now or answers to questions or miracles, but we can learn so much from the Book of Mormon in 1 Nephi 17:51 that "If the Lord has such great power, and has wrought so many miracles among the children of men, how is it that he cannot... (insert any trial here)" I know He CAN help us and miracles haven't stopped!!! Brother Rene is one of those miracles for us and has shown us how learning the gospel changes behavior and relying on the Savior changes lives ah November 23 we are so excited and for our little part member friends to be baptized in December!!! these filipino children make me so happy and help to remind me that we don't have to be perfect or know everything or have all the doctrines of the gospel memorized, but we just need a desire to change and love for God and our Savior and thats what they have!!! okay theres so much more but life is so good I loooove being a missionary in the Philippines this is the best life ever okay nahigugma ko ninyo!!!

Is that a harmonica????

LOVE from Sister Leavitt

Hi! This is Sister Leavitt! Ha, you probably have heard about me here and there, but I just wanted to send you a quick email to tell you just how much I'm grateful that you have raised the most wonderful daughter :) My dear Sister Miller, I have never met a more inspiring woman, her heart is about the size the entire endless universe and she just loves everything and everyone with all of it 😁.
She loves you more than I can ever tell, her family means. Absolutely. Everything. To. Her.
She wants to be just like you. She admires the both of you as her parents more than life :)
You have been her best example in all things and I know that the way she serves relentlessly must surely be a reflection of what she's seen and experienced in your home. I always like to say that there are "countless thoughtful ways to serve someone" and I think your daughter has found more of those ways now than most people ever will :)
Thank you so so so much for being the biggest reason that Sister Miller is the wonderful, stunning, genuinely loving person she is :) The influence that that you have as a mother on your fantastic daughters is reaching more people than you'll ever know and I'm just a lucky duck to be one of them! Can't wait to meet you all someday!
All the love,
Sister Leavitt ❤

GENERAL CONFERENCE CHANGED MY LIFE

hi!!!!! GENERAL CONFERENCE CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!!!!! ISNT THE GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST SOOO GOOD! WE GET TO BE DISCIPLES OF THE SAVIOR AND REMEMBER HIM NO MATTER WHERE WE ARE IN THE WORLD AND OUR HEAVENLY FATHER LOVES US SO MUCH AND REALLY JUST ANTS US TO RETURN TO HIM THROUGH OUR COVENANTS AND IT WAS JUST PURE JOY TO LISTEN TO THEIR WORDS AHHHHH okay seriously I am so grateful for modern day revelation and invite all of you to listen and continue to apply their words because ah it will change our lives! Also when they announced the new temples I just cried ahhhh BACOLOD all of the wonderful people we love so much in Old Escalante will be sooo close!!!!! this might be so long but heres the scoop I am with SISTER ZOLETA  she is wonderful!!!! and teaching me Tagalog and she could be a professional chef for reals, but she loves the gospel and we are just trying our best here in Busay and MIRACLES SERIOUSLY HAPPENED THIS WEEK!!!! we have been praying so hard for finding new people and I know so many prayers have been offered too for us here in Busay and here are just some of the miracles that happened (but also you might see the reoccuring theme of getting punted a lot but often times thats when miracles happen)
Sister Leah!!! We were walking somewhere we had never been before and saw like no one so we started looking for just people anywhere and saw someone inside a house and ran and sister leah started talking to us and let us in and we taught about our families and God's love and thought that was it but we asked if she had anything to share and she told of how life was hard and so many hard things had happened as in kalisod gud and she had never told others about it but felt like we could help and she just desired relief and this is the gospel this gives true peace and joy so this is the right place yes!!!
Sister Maryvic!!! We saw her like 4 times in one day and finally stopped to talk to her and her husband had been given a Book of Mormon before and she constantly saw it in the house and kept looking at it and had an overwhelming feeling she needed to read it but she hadn't done it yet. She then recognized that maybe this was a sign from God that is was her time to read, and we asked her to chose a question of the soul, and she wanted to learn about baptism and the proper way (and she said she felt guided for some reason to read that one) and then as we returned on Sunday to her home, she opened up that she had a dream before that two people from a different religion came to her house and realized that we were the ones she saw in her dream ahhhh we are sooo excited to keep teaching her the gospel!!!
Sister Menerba!!! We were unsure where to go when she let us in her house and described how a couple of months ago she never would have let us in but her life had changed and she had realized that God did love her and prayers can be answered and she was soo ready to receive a Book of Mormon and just wants to give her testimony in sacrament meeting because its so powerful
Delima Pamilya!!! None of the people we planned to visit were home and we had no idea what to do next and we prayed and still just weren't sure but we started talking to a man when we saw a woman and for some reason we just started running after her and she asked us why but we just kept following her even as she was turning so fast around corners and then she is a member diay that hasn't been to church in so many years but we were able to teach from the Book of Mormon and they felt the Spirit again!!!

I testify of the immediate goodness of our loving Heavenly Father! He has a plan for EACH of us and wants us to feel guided and to feel His love, amidst our trials or getting punted or our shortcomings and ALWAYS gives us another chance! Ah we are so excited to keep returning to these new people we have met and also to keep learing.
We represent the Savior in ALL places whether private or public, island or sea, bukid or city; This gospel really is a lifestyle and not just something we remember on Sundays or use when we want to feel good; this is a constant remembrance of our covenants and the Atonement of Christ and truly receiving His name on our hearts AND IT CHANGES US GUD!!! I feel so blessed to be here and oh how I love the Philippines and unlimited rice and the gospel gud I love you all!!!
Out working
